Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of Industrial Development on Achieving Sustainable Development in the Iraqi Economy for the Period (2000-2023)

Industrial development to achieve sustainable development depends on assessing its impacts through environmental, social, and economic indicators. The purpose of this research is to measure and analyze the impact of industrial development in achieving sustainable development in Iraq, with a focus on independent elements such as value-added in industry, oil prices, and the COVID-19 pandemic, considering their important role in enhancing industrial development and achieving sustainable development. The research methodology relied on secondary data and time series estimations using Time Series Estimation, the ARDL model, and the Bounds Test to analyze short- and long-term relationships between the variables. One of the main findings of the research is that increasing value-added in industry positively contributes to enhancing economic growth, increasing job opportunities, and reducing unemployment. Environmental pollution must also be considered. The results showed that oil prices positively contribute to supporting the Iraqi economy, given its heavy reliance on oil export revenues. COVID-19 negatively affected the Iraqi economy, leading to a decline in economic growth, but unemployment levels remained relatively stable. Finally, the results showed that Iraq's focus on extractive industries, compared to manufacturing industries, contributes to increasing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Based on these results, the research suggests reducing reliance on extractive industries and enhancing sustainable manufacturing industries, as they play a role in supporting economic growth and reducing unemployment by creating more sustainable job opportunities. It emphasizes the importance of adopting advanced techniques and relying on modern technology to reduce CO2 emissions and mitigate the environmental impact.
