كان الغرض من هذا البحث هو تعزيز المعرفة الموجودة لتطوير نموذج مفاهيمي يصور التأثير المعتدل للجنس في العلاقة بين اللياقة البدنية المرتبطة بالصحة وأعراض الاكتئاب وتقدير الذات بين المراهقين. استخدم البحث تقنيات جمع البيانات الكمية. في المجموع، 158 مراهقًا تتراوح أعمارهم بين 12 و 15 عامًا هم طلاب في المدارس المتوسطة في محافظة السليمانية في كردستان / العراق. تم تحليل البيانات باستخدام نمذجة المعادلات الهيكلية الجزئية للمربعات الصغرى (PLS-SEM) والإحصاءات الوصفية المحسوبة باستخدام برنامج SPSS. أشارت النتائج إلى وجود ارتباط مباشر بين أعراض الاكتئاب وتقدير الذات لكل من الجنسين. وعلى العكس من ذلك، ثبت أن القدرة على التحمل العضلي لكلا الجنسين لها علاقة إيجابية بتقدير الذات. وعلى العكس من ذلك، يرتبط تكوين الجسم سلبًا بتقدير الذات بين الإناث. من ناحية أخرى، لم يُظهر تكوين الجسم وتقدير الذات أي ارتباط ملحوظ للذكور. ومن الجدير بالذكر أنه لم تكن هناك علاقة مهمة بين اللياقة القلبية التنفسية وتقدير الذات لدى الإناث؛ ومع ذلك، بالنسبة للذكور، تم إثبات علاقة تثبت وجود ارتباط مباشر. وأخيرًا، بين أي من الجنسين، لم تُظهر المرونة ارتباطًا مهمًا بتقدير الذات. وتؤكد نتائج الدراسة على العلاقة بين اللياقة البدنية المرتبطة بالصحة وأعراض الاكتئاب وتقدير الذات لدى المراهقين، بغض النظر عن الجنس. وأظهرت النتائج أن النموذج المفاهيمي الذي تم اختباره كان قابلاً للتطبيق وموثوقًا وعمليًا داخل البيئة المدرسية. تسلط هذه الدراسة الضوء على أهمية الدعوة إلى اللياقة البدنية وتعزيز الصحة العقلية من أجل صحة المراهقين.
