Abstract

Physical education plays a vital role in the overall development of students, enhancing both their physical fitness and psychological well-being. However, traditional PE classes often lack variety and creativity, leading to low engagement among high school girls, especially those with reduced motivation, flexibility, and physical fitness. This study aimed to design an engaging educational program using Hatha Yoga and Mindful Running to increase enjoyment in PE classes among 10th-grade female students. The participants were divided into four groups: a Hatha Yoga group (34 students), a Mindful Running group (35 students), a combined group (36 students), and a control group (34 students) following the standard curriculum. The program’s effectiveness was evaluated across six key psychological factors related to enjoyment: variety, autonomy, teacher interaction, intrinsic motivation, happiness, and self-evaluation. Findings showed that the Mindful Running group outperformed the others in most areas, suggesting its strong potential in boosting psychological engagement and enjoyment. The combined group also showed significant gains, particularly in happiness and self-evaluation. Meanwhile, the Hatha Yoga group showed modest improvements, likely due to the novelty of the exercises. The control group reported the lowest levels across all measures. These results highlight the value of integrating mindful and innovative approaches into PE programs to promote enjoyment, boost participation, and support students’ psychological growth, especially for adolescent girls who often face barriers to full engagement.
