Focusing on Environmental Issues in Local Radio

Stations A Study From the Perspective of Lecturer of Sulaimani University

Abstract

Environmental Issues are one of the most important issues that have been taken seriously at a local and global level, and currently have their own special significance. Various scientific conferences and discussions about the environment of Kurdistan are being held, addressing and researching the risks and environmental challenges. This research, as one of the scientific efforts, aims to understand how local radio stations address environmental issues within the framework of their media content and the perspective of the lecturers at Sulaimani University on this matter.  The research was conducted using descriptive and analytical methods; a number of lecturers from the University of Sulaimani have been selected as examples of research, each with different academic levels and fields. The following are the most important findings: Coverage of environmental issues at local radio is taken seriously, and it is not covered as if it is a superficial subject. Moreover, the involvement of university lecturers in environmental issues remains at an appropriate level of significance. Another result was that the internal radios cooperated in creating environmental awareness among. However, at the same time, it has become a centre of activity for the cooperation of related stakeholders in the dissemination of environmental awareness. Based on the findings of the study, a set of recommendations has been proposed.
