The Role of Conscious Leadership in Organizational Sustainability

An Analytical Study of the Opinions of a Sample of Faculty Members in Private Universities in the City of Erbil

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship and impact between mindful leadership behaviors, represented by (emotional awareness, mental awareness, relational awareness, and self-awareness), and organizational sustainability, represented by (economic sustainability, social sustainability, and environmental sustainability). The research problem stems from the limited perception and application of mindful leadership behaviors and their role in achieving organizational sustainability in private universities in Erbil city. The general framework of the study is to identify the research problem, which raises several questions about the nature of the relationship and impact between the two variables. A hypothetical framework designed, including two hypotheses that were tested using statistical tools. Data collected through a questionnaire form that was prepared in advance for the purpose of collecting primary data. The research community included all faculty members in eight private universities that were intentionally selected in Erbil city, where 410 questionnaires were distributed and 375 were retrieved, with 356 valid questionnaires for statistical analysis, representing the research sample. The data were analyzed using the statistical program (SPSS V.24), (AMOS V.24) to test the two hypotheses. The results revealed significant positive correlations and a significant impact between mindful leadership and organizational sustainability at both the overall and partial levels, with the self-awareness dimension emerging as the most influential dimension in organizational sustainability. The research recommended the importance of adopting mindful leadership practices as a strategic approach to support organizational sustainability in private universities in Erbil city.

Ismail M. Younis, Department of Business Administration, College of Administration and Economy, Salahaddin University - Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq

He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from Salahaddin University, in 2019. He has experience teaching online. He is a faculty member at the College of Administration and Economics at Salahaddin University, both morning and evening shifts. Faculty member at the College of Technical Administration at Erbil Technical University (morning and evening shifts). Faculty member at the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences at Knowledge University in Erbil.

Zana M Sadq, Department Of Business Administration, Faculty Of Humanities And Social Sciences, Koya University, Koya 44023, Kurdistan Region – F.R. Iraq

Zana Majed Sadq earned a B.Sc. degree in Business Administration from Salahaddin University in 2009, an M.Sc. in Management from the University of Hertfordshire (UK) in 2013, and a Ph.D. from the University of Sulaymaniyah. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Administration and Accounting, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Koya University, Kurdistan Region, F.R. Iraq. He teaches a range of courses, including Principles of Management Science and Marketing Management. His academic career milestones include receiving the titles of Assistant Lecturer (2014), Lecturer (2017), and Assistant Professor (2023).

Amer A. Majeed, Department of Business Administration Technology, College of Administrative Technology, Erbil Technical University, Kurdistan Region, Iraq

He holds a BA in Economics, an MA in Monetary Theory, and a PhD in Financial Economics and Monetary Policy. He is a member of the Syndicate of Economists and Accountants. He is a faculty member in the Department of Business Administration Technology at the College of Administrative Technology at Erbil Polytechnic University and the Director of Quality Assurance at the college. His research interests include authoring textbooks in the field of finance and economics.
