Abstract

This study, entitled (cognitive the image schema of proverbs in Kurdish, the image schema of space and Locomotion‌ as an instance) tries to present the principles of image schema theory in cognitive semantics in Kurdish language. Also, the interpretation of proverbs and the examination of how the schemas and body parts of proverbs with the names of body parts are related to the understanding of the meaning of proverb. In cognitive semantics (the conceptual structure is embodied), that is, based on the relationship with the environment, each person gains insight, which is the result of this interaction. One of the most important conceptual structures in the study of cognitive semantics is the design of images within the framework of cognitive semantics, Image schemas that have a spatial structure are considered the basic cognitive patterns. The image schemas are formed under the influence of the physical experience of movement, the characteristic of the container and the volume of the phenomena, the application of force, the breaking of obstacles, distance and proximity, and other things. Schemas are perceptual and pre-conceptual models that, in the next stages, human beings extend to the abstract field as well. Thus, this study, via using a descriptive analysis method analyzes Kurdish language proverbs in the light of cognitive semantics, especially image schema theory, in order to conceptualize the speakers' physical experience.
