تُعدّ الشتائم ظاهرة لغوية موجودة في جميع الثقافات والمجتمعات. والثقافة الكردية واحدة من تلك الثقافات التي تزخر بألفاظ وتعبيرات الشتم. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى فحص أنواع ووظائف وحالات استخدام ألفاظ الشتائم والتعبيرات المرتبطة بها، بالإضافة إلى مواقف الكرد في جنوب كردستان، الذين يتحدثون بلهجة الكرمانجية الجنوبية، تجاه هذه الظاهرة اللغوية. لجمع البيانات حول استخدام الشتائم في اللغة الكردية، أجاب 208 مشاركين على استبيان، وشارك 80 منهم في مقابلات جماعية غير منظمة. تشير النتائج إلى أن متحدثي الكرمانجية الجنوبية في جنوب كردستان يستخدمون ألفاظ الشتائم أساسًا كوسيلة للتنفيس عن الغضب. غالبًا ما يتم توجيه الشتائم إلى الأصدقاء والمعارف، وتستهدف الشخصية والذكاء. وعلى الرغم من أن المشاركين يرون أن الشتم سلوك خاطئ، إلا أنهم يعتبرونه شرًا لا بد منه، أي أنهم يترددون في اللجوء إلى هذه الظاهرة اللغوية في ظل ظروف معينة (مثل الغضب والإحباط). كما يبدو أن المتحدثين يتجنبون استخدام الألفاظ النابية أو الشتائم ذات الطابع الجنسي، ربما بسبب الخلفية الدينية والثقافية للمشاركين. علاوة على ذلك، يرتبط استخدام الشتائم بالعمر والمكانة الاجتماعية، حيث يأخذ المتحدثون في الاعتبار عمر ومكانة الشخص الذي يتم توجيه الشتيمة إليه. تأمل هذه الدراسة في تقديم رؤية أعمق وإبراز الأهمية السوسيولغوية والثقافية لهذه الظاهرة اللغوية بين متحدثي اللهجة الكرمانجية الجنوبية بشكل خاص، وبين المتحدثين باللغة الكردية عمومًا.
